Biography

Sumit Subudhi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Genitourinary Medical Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. A trained medical oncologist and immunologist, his research focuses on investigating the immunological mechanisms responsible for tumor rejection and clinical benefit. He is the principal investigator of multiple immunotherapy clinical trials for patients with prostate cancer, and he conducts translational laboratory studies related to those trials. His research enables the development of novel immunotherapy strategies for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. He received the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s Young Investigator Award in 2014 and the V Foundation–Lloyd Family Clinical Oncology Scholar Award in 2017. Dr. Subudhi holds a BA in biology basis of behaviour from The University of Pennsylvania and an MD and PhD from The University of Chicago

Biography

Prof Attard is a John Black Charitable Foundation Endowed Chair in Urological Cancer Research at University College London. He holds an advanced Cancer Research UK Clinician Scientist award and is Team Leader of the Treatment Resistance Group at the UCL Cancer Institute. He graduated with a degree in Medicine from the University of Malta in June 1999 and obtained a PhD in Medicine from the University of London (ICR) in 2010. His main research interest is dissecting treatment resistance, currently with a focus on plasma DNA analysis, in order to inform on the development of novel therapeutics and biomarkers for castration resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). He is an experienced clinical trialist in CRPC and a co-author of more than 130 peer-reviewed manuscripts, including several important papers on advanced prostate cancer. Prof Attard’s many awards over the years include the ASCO Foundation Annual Merit Award in 2007, Prostate Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award in 2008, the AACR-GlaxoSmithKline Outstanding Clinical Scholar Award in 2009, the Medical Research Society/Academy of Medical Sciences Sue McCarthy Prize in 2010 and the McElwain award in 2010. He received the Cancer Research UK Future Leader Award in 2017. Prof Attard sits on a number of advisory boards and the editorial board of Annals of Oncology.

Biography

Professor Michael Hofman is a nuclear medicine physician, physician-scientist and Director of the Prostate Cancer Theranostics and Imaging Centre of Excellence (ProsTIC) at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. He previously completed a research fellowship at Guy's & St Thomas' in London. He has broad research interest in radiopharmaceuticals for imaging and therapy (theranostics) in oncology. This includes neuroendocrine tumours and haematologic applications and more recently he has focussed on improving outcomes for men with prostate cancer.

Biography

Veeru Kasivisvanathan is an Academic Urological Surgeon based at University College London and University College London Hospital, specializing in Urological Oncology. He is Founding Director of the BURST Research Collaborative and a Hunterian Professor of Surgical Sciences at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. His clinical practice focuses on prostate cancer diagnostics, robotic pelvic cancer surgery and focal therapy of prostate cancer. He completed his Urology residency in London, United Kingdom, working in hospitals both north and south of the River Thames. He trained in a number of leading institutions including University College London Hospital, Guys Hospital London & Imperial College London and has worked abroad in different healthcare systems, carrying out clinical and research work at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Australia.

Biography

Dr. Daniel Spratt is the Chairman and Professor of Radiation Oncology at University Hospitals (UH) Seidman Cancer Center and Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). He obtained his medical degree from Vanderbilt Medical School and completed his radiation oncology residency at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He served as the Vice Chair in the Department of Radiation Oncology and Chair of the Genitourinary Clinical Research Team at the University of Michigan until April 2021 when he joined UH and CWRU. Dr. Spratt is an international expert in the management of prostate cancer and the development and validation of prognostic and predictive biomarkers. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed manuscripts and runs a National Institute of Health-funded translational lab. He serves as the Chair for NRG Oncology's Intact Prostate Cancer Subcommittee, and for the National Cancer Institute's Genitourinary Steering Committee. He is the PI of numerous national and international randomized clinical trials in prostate and bladder cancer, and has mentored over 40 students and faculty.

Biography

Bertrand Tombal, MD, PhD, is Professor of Physiology and Chair of the Division of Urology at the Université catholique de Louvain and its associated hospital, the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc, in Brussels, Belgium. He obtained his MD in 1990 and his PhD in 2003, both from the Université catholique de Louvain, and completed part of his science training at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Professor Tombal has both a scientific and a clinical interest in urological oncology, particularly in the areas of prostate and bladder cancer. While pursuing his PhD, he investigated the mechanisms of apoptosis in prostate cancer cells and the modulation of apoptosis by growth factors. His primary clinical interest is the treatment of the advanced stages of prostate cancer, and particularly hormonal treatment and the development of new biological agents. As Head of the Uro‐Oncology Division at the Université catholique de Louvain, he is currently coordinating several clinical trials in this research area. Professor Tombal has authored many peer‐reviewed articles and books or book chapters. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences and has been the recipient of various awards for his research in the field of urology, including the European Association of Urology Thesis Award, which he received in 2003. Professor Tombal is also a member of the Scientific Office of the European Association of Urology.

Professor of Oncogenetics, The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) and Honorary Consultant in Clinical Oncology and Oncogenetics, The Royal Marsden Hospital (RMH)

Professor Eeles is both a clinician and scientist and has been instrumental in ensuring new discoveries in cancer genetics immediately benefit patients, particularly in her speciality areas of BRCA-mutations, other DNA repair gene-mutation carriers, and prostate cancer.

She trained at the University of Cambridge and St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, has a PhD in cancer genetics and is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and the Royal College of Radiologists (Clinical Oncology Faculty).

She returned from the USA in 1994 and is lead of the ICR Oncogenetics Team which has a programme of research in genetic predisposition to prostate cancer and management of individuals with BRCA and other DNA repair gene mutations. She leads the largest prostate cancer genetic study in the UK, set up an international consortium that involves over 100 research groups worldwide, and leads multiple clinical trials and screening studies. She also started the flagship Prostate Risk clinic at RMH to evaluate the increasing role of genetic testing in men with and at risk of prostate cancer.

She has sat on many genetics advisory committees, both national and international. She has edited a major textbook on genetic predisposition to cancer and a special edition of the Familial Cancer journal ‘Delivering cancer genetics services – new ways of working’. She is the Genomics Champion for the Royal College of Radiologists (Clinical Oncology Faculty) for the Academy of Royal Colleges. She is an author of over 500 papers and her book which she led as lead editor ‘Cancer Prevention and Screening’ won the BMA Chairman’s Book of the Year Award in 2019.

Biography

Dr. Mateo is a physician-scientist and Medical Oncologist and is the team leader for the newly established Prostate Cancer Translational Research Group at the Vall d´Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) in Spain. Dr. Mateo’s main research interest is the development of new, less toxic and more effective compounds to treat patients with advanced prostate cancer. His research commitment is towards developing precision medicine strategies for prostate cancer patients through molecular and functional stratification of prostate cancer. His group aims to integrate clinical trials and biomarker studies towards a more precise care for prostate cancer patients. Using drug development expertise, and the skills in molecular characterization of cancer using next-generation sequencing and protein-based assays acquired in the laboratory, Dr Mateo is working to develop precision medicine strategies for prostate cancer, focusing in targeting DNA repair deficiencies and their interplay with AR signaling, as well as in the study tumor evolution as driver of treatment resistances.

Dr. Taplin received her MD in 1986 from the University of Massachusetts, Worcester. She completed a residency in internal medicine and chief residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and an oncology-hematology fellowship at Beth Israel Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Taplin was on staff in medical oncology-hematology as an assistant and then associate professor of medicine at the University of Massachusetts from 1993 to 2003, when she joined Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Biography

Professor Janet Brown was appointed to a Chair in Translational Medical Oncology in the University of Sheffield, UK and as Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology at the Sheffield NHS Foundation Trust in 2012. She also holds a Visiting Professorship in Medical Oncology at the University of Leeds, UK. After graduating in Medicine from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and training in Oncology in Newcastle, Christie Hospital Manchester and Weston Park Hospital, Sheffield, she obtained her MD research degree from University of Sheffield and was appointed Senior Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology at the University of Leeds in 2006. Her specialist areas of clinical practice are breast, prostate and renal cancers. Amongst a range of awards, she gained the American Society for Clinical Oncology Pain Merit Award in 2003 and the UK McElwain Research Prize for Medical Oncology in 2005. In 2008, she won a Cancer Research UK Clinician Scientist Fellowship for studies in bone oncology, which she held until 2014. She has gained international clinical experience, including study visits to Massachusetts General Hospital/ Harvard Medical School and Princess Margaret’s Hospital in Toronto. Professor Brown is currently Head of the Academic Unit of Clinical Oncology in Sheffield which, with the Cancer Clinical Trials Centre, encompasses responsibility for around 100 clinical and scientific researchers and associated funding. She is also Deputy Director (and Oncology Lead) of the Mellanby Centre for Musculoskeletal Research. Other current roles include her leadership of the £4.5 million Yorkshire Cancer Research Senior Fellowships Award for Sheffield. She is Translational Lead for the Sheffield Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (funded by Cancer Research UK), the Sheffield Clinical Academic Training Lead for Oncology and the Yorkshire Network Research lead for urological cancer.

Biography

I am a genitourinary medical oncologist with a particular focus on recurrent and advanced prostate cancer. I conduct clinical and translational studies to bring new therapies to patients with prostate cancer. In particular, I am interested in developing novel androgen-directed therapies, genetically-targeted therapies, and immunotherapies for men with recurrent or advanced prostate cancer, and using germline and tumor genomics to inform precision oncology approaches for these patients. I also have an interest in liquid biomarker development, including the clinical validation of the AR-V7 marker as well as DNA repair markers and their therapeutic implications. I am also involved in mentoring fellows and junior faculty in the clinical care of genitourinary cancers and the development of translational research strategies related to prostate cancer.

Biography

Dr. Vivek Narayan, MD MSCE is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Medical Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania’s Abramson Cancer Center. His clinical and research interests are specifically focused on the care of patients with advanced prostate cancer and kidney cancer.  He serves as principal investigator on several therapeutic oncology clinical trials, including multiple investigator-initiated studies of novel immunotherapeutics. He additionally seeks to improve survivorship care for patients with cancer, including the evaluation and management of cardiac toxicities of cancer therapies for prostate and kidney cancers. Dr. Narayan’s early career achievements have been nationally recognized, with selection as the 2018 AUA Urology Care Foundation Outstanding Graduate Scholar Award, as well as a recipient of the 2018 Prostate Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award. He has received research funding from the American Cancer Society, American Urological Association, and the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Biography

Dr. Russell Pachynski completed his undergraduate work at Stanford, graduating with a B.S. in Biology with an emphasis on immunology and oncology. Following his undergraduate degree, he continued his research in basic immunology at UCSF, where he studied the structure and function of integrins. While a medical student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Pachynski was chosen as a Howard Hughes-National Institutes of Health (NIH) Research Scholar. At the National Cancer Institute he worked under the mentorship of Dr. Patrick Hwu and Steven Rosenberg in the Surgery Branch studying mouse tumor models and adoptive transfer therapy. He then returned to Stanford to complete his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine, and fellowship in Medical Oncology. He is currently an Associate Professor of Oncology at Washington University in St Louis, where his lab focuses on tumor immunology and immunotherapy. Clinically, he specialises in genitourinary cancers with an emphasis on prostate cancer immunotherapy and translational research. He serves on tumor immunology study sections for both the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute, as well as on editorial boards for Clinical Genitourinary Cancers and Frontiers in Oncology.

Dr. Ana Aparicio is an Associate Professor in the Department of Genitourinary Medical Oncology, Division of Cancer Medicine of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She received her MD from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in Madrid, Spain and completed her clinical internship and residency at UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Aparicio is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. She has received numerous awards from MD Anderson Cancer Center, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the National Cancer Institute and other institutions. Dr. Aparicio has been published in numerous peer-reviewed medical publications and is a member of the American Society for Clinical Oncology, American Medical Association, Southwest Oncology Group and the American Association for Cancer Research, among others.

Biography

Dr. Samuel Denmeade is a professor of oncology and urology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and co-leader of the Prostate Cancer Program for the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. He also has appointments in the Department of Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences and Department of Biomolecular Engineering. His areas of clinical expertise include bladder cancer, kidney cancer, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Dr. Denmeade earned his M.D. from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. He completed his residency at the University of Chicago. He performed a fellowship in oncology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and a fellowship in medical oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His research interests include prostate and renal cancer, bladder cancer and targeted drug development. Dr. Denmeade was named the Carolyn and Bill Stutt Scholar by The Patrick C. Walsh Prostate Cancer Research Fund in 2012.

Biography

Nina Tunariu works as a consultant radiologist at The Royal Marsden Hospital in London, UK. Her main interest is in the development of multimodality, whole-body imaging in advanced prostate cancer with a focus on qualifying whole-body MRI with Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI) parameters as imaging biomarkers for assessing response in bone metastases. As the dedicated radiologist for the Drug Development and Prostate Targeted Therapies Group Units at The Royal Marsden Hospital, her daily work includes: leading the units’ imaging meetings and assessing response to therapy; performing research on ultrasound-guided biopsies of soft-tissue disease; and advanced data analysis of the anatomical and functional imaging employed in the Phase 1 to 2 clinical trials within these units. Dr Tunariu qualified from the University of Medicine Iuliu Hatieganu in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, in 1997. She completed her general medical training at Hammersmith Hospital London, Papworth Hospital Cambridge, UK, and the Royal London Hospital, and her clinical radiology training at Imperial College NHS Trust in London. In October 2008, Dr Tunariu joined The Royal Marsden Hospital and The Institute of Cancer Research to undertake an oncological imaging fellowship; in 2014, she was awarded an MDRes for her thesis entitled Standardisation of Data Analysis Methods for Multiparametric MRI in Phase I Clinical Trials by the University of London. Her main clinical and research interests concern the integrated application of multimodality functional imaging for tumour response assessment in the context of clinical trials of new anticancer agents. She has a particular interest in evaluation of the role of whole-body multiparametric MRI as a tool for evaluation of therapeutic response to targeted anticancer therapies and of intrapatient tumour heterogeneity.

Biography

Dr. Osama Mohamad received his undergraduate degree at the American University of Beirut, in Beirut, Lebanon in 2006 with the highest honors. He then enrolled in the medical scientist training program (MSTP) at Emory University in Atlanta, and successfully finished his MD Ph.D. (Ph.D. in stem cells and regenerative medicine) in 2014. During his Ph.D., he received a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellowship award and completed a certificate program in clinical and translational research. He completed a transitional year internship at the University of Hawaii (where he received the resident of the year award), then finished residency training in radiation oncology at the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical Center, in Dallas (where he was a chief resident). During residency, he spent a year pursuing a research fellowship at the National Institute of Radiological Sciences in Japan studying carbon ion radiotherapy for prostate cancer. Over his years in training, he received many awards including the resident of the year award and the RSNA Roentgen research award during his chief resident year at UTSW. He presented his research at multiple national and international meetings and published over 45 publications. Dr. Mohamad’s number one priority is his patients. He is interested in healthcare innovation with a focus on oncology. He is passionate about clinical care and bringing cutting-edge research and innovation to his patients. At UCSF, he will be treating genitourinary cancers with a special focus on prostate and kidney cancers using intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), stereotactic radiotherapy (SBRT), and HDR brachytherapy. He will build on the strong interdisciplinary cancer clinical programs in the departments of urology, radiation oncology, and medical oncology at UCSF to develop clinical research, clinical trials, and translational research in prostate and kidney cancers.

Biography

Alicia Morgans is a Genitourinary Medical Oncologist and the Medical Director of the Survivorship Program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. A clinician and investigator, she has expertise in clinical trials and patient-reported outcome measures, as well as incorporating patient preferences and beliefs into clinical decision making. Her research has investigated complications of systemic therapy for prostate cancer survivors, including the study of skeletal, cardiovascular, diabetic, and cognitive complications. Her work has been funded by grants from the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Department of Defense. She is a member of the advanced and localized prostate cancer treatment guidelines committee of the American Urologic Association, and is a member of the cardio-oncology committee of the American Heart Association. Dr. Stacy Loeb is a Professor of Urology and Population Health at NYU Langone Health and the Manhattan Veterans Affairs, specializing in prostate cancer. Dr. Loeb completed her urology residency training at Johns Hopkins and subsequently received a Masters of Science in Comparative Effectiveness Research at NYU School of Medicine. She completed a K07 grant from the National Cancer Institute to study active surveillance for prostate cancer and a Young Investigator Award from the Prostate Cancer Foundation to study digital health. She currently has grants from the Department of Defense and Prostate Cancer Foundation for her research about prostate cancer. Her research is also supported by the Blank Family Foundation and Louis Feil Charitable Lead Trust. Dr. Loeb is an internationally recognized expert in prostate cancer with more than 340 peer-reviewed published articles and 11 book chapters. She is on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Clinical Oncology, European Urology, Urology Times, Nature Reviews Urology and Reviews in Urology. Dr Loeb authored the chapter on “Diagnosis and Staging of Prostate Cancer” for Campbell-Walsh Urology, the primary textbook used in the field of urology. Dr. Loeb also frequently gives international lectures on prostate cancer, social media and men's health. She is on the American Urological Association Public Media Committee. Dr Loeb also hosts the Men’s Health Show on Sirius XM 110 satellite radio.

Professor Silke Gillessen is a Medical Oncologist with focus on genitourinary (GU) cancers. Prof Gillessen completed her training in Basel, St. Gallen, and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston. After returning to Switzerland, she built up the medical oncology unit for genitourinary cancer in Cantonal Hospital, St Gallen and lead the Clinical Research Department. From 2018, Prof Gillessen has been Genitourinary Cancer Systemic Therapy Research Chair at the University of Manchester and Honorary Consultant at The Christie Hospital. Currently she still holds an Honorary Professorship at the University of Manchester. She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the ESMO guidelines and a panellist of the EAU guidelines for prostate cancer. She served for two terms as president of the SAKK GU group. She chaired the EORTC Genitourinary Cancers Group. She has led numerous clinical trials since 1995 and won the prestigious SAKK/Pfizer Award in 2011 and she is the leading organizer and founder of the Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference (APCCC) which informs cancer physicians how to use state-of-the-art therapies for their patients. Prof Gillessen was appointed from January 2020 as Head of the Department of Medical Oncology, full professor at the USI and Director of the IOSI in Lugano and Bellinzona.

My major area of research and teaching is cancer epidemiology. I am the Director of the Cancer Epidemiology and Cancer Prevention Program (Area of Interest) within the Department of Epidemiology here at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH). In addition, I am Leader of the Cancer Epidemiology Program at the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. After receiving my doctoral degree in epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (formerly the Harvard School of Public Health), I trained as a post-doctoral fellow in cancer epidemiology at the Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. At the Karolinska, I gained expertise in using nationwide health registries to examine cancer etiology and formed a long-term partnership with epidemiology colleagues in the Nordic countries. For the past 9 years, my primary faculty appointment has been at the Harvard Chan School, where my research uses integrative molecular epidemiology approaches within cohorts in the United States and globally to investigate research questions focused on cancer etiology, mortality, and survivorship. I serve as co-Principal Investigator for the Health Professionals Follow-up Study (https://sites.sph.harvard.edu/hpfs/).

Dr. Joshua Lang is a faculty member in the Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care in the Department of Medicine. He is the co-director of the internal medicine residency’s Physician-Scientist Training Program (PSTP) and a lecturer in several didactic series for medical students, internal medicine residents and hematology/oncology fellows. Dr. Lang is also the director of the UW Carbone Cancer Center’s circulating biomarker core and liquid biospecimen team, the co-leader of its tumor microenvironment program, and the clinical co-chair of its precision medicine molecular tumor board. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer, and the American Association of Cancer Research. Dr. Lang has received an ASCO Merit Award; a University of Wisconsin Helen Dickie Fellows Research Award; a Prostate Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award; a Department of Medicine Puestow Junior Faculty Research Award; and a Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care Award for Research Excellence. CLINICAL SPECIALTIES: Dr. Lang is a medical oncologist who specializes in genitourinary (bladder, kidney, prostate and testicular) cancer. RESEARCH INTERESTS: Dr. Lang has research interests in developmental therapeutics for prostate cancer. He is the lead principal investigator on the multi-PI Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program, and the PI of a Prostate Cancer Foundation-funded project to investigate therapeutic targeting of AR-variant prostate cancer with a novel antibody drug conjugate. Dr. Lang also leads clinical trials that evaluate circulating tumor cells in solid tumor malignancies, efficacy of IMMU-132 in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer and chemohormonal therapy in high-risk and oligo-metastatic prostate cancer.

Prof. Andrea Alimonti, head of the Molecular Oncology at the Institute of Oncology Research is a full professor at the University of the Italian-Switzerland, at the University of Padova and at ETH Zurich, and an ERC and J. Steiner Cancer Research awarded clinical research scientist. Prof. Alimonti received his MD degree from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" and his medical and training in oncology from the National Cancer Institute of Rome. Prof. Alimonti completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cancer biology in the laboratory of PP Pandolfi first at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York and then at Harvard Medical School in Boston. In 2010 he joined the Institute of Research in Oncology, in Switzerland as head of the molecular oncology group. Prof. Alimonti has won several prestigious awards and grants such as the Swiss Bridge Award, the J Steiner Cancer Research Award, the EMBO YIP and the European Research Council (ERC) starting and consolidator grants. He is the author of many clinical and basic research publications in major scientific journals.
